It’s been a minute (or thousands) since my last post. We’ve got lots of new dates up on the calendar. Come out and see me! Still test-driving new material at the more intimate, listening venues, to see how we land for the new recordings. Thank you for stopping in. Take very good care of yourself.
Welp… I’ve had a few days to settle down, so I thought I’d write a little about my completely kickass weekend in Tennessee. My old man took me on a date to catch the WellRED Comedy Tour at Zanies in Nashville on Friday and, y’all……. To say that these guys are funny is a gross understatement.
I’ve been following them since Trae Crowder’s porch rant blew up and I just felt like I found my people!! Trae Crowder, Corey Forrester, and Drew Morgan do NOT disappoint. There’s so much they talk about that’s 100% relatable for me and a whole bunch of funny-cause-it’s-true stuff that just puts me away. Saw them in Dallas right after the release of their book The Liberal Redneck Manifesto: Draggin’ Dixie Outta the Dark (Y’all go get it. SOOO good.) and they KILLED!
Now, PLEASE NOTE there is a capital “E” for a reason. This is NOT for children. And NOT for anyone with an aversion to the F-bomb. It’s meant for adults, so don’t play this in car on the way home from picking up Sally-Jo and Kiersten from practice and then send me hate mail over their newfound affinity for swear words. THANK YOU for reading my note. THANK YOU for listening. Be kind, do better, repeat. hl
Hey! We’ve added some sweet, new, spicy venues AND plenty of new shows to the calendar! Circle M Crawfish out in Big Sandy, TX, will be hosting Meredith Crawford and myself on Nov. 17th! AND we’ll be performing an intimate concert together at the Espinoza Music Academy in Mineola, TX, on Dec. 8th!! Look for more details and special event dates as the holiday season approaches. I love every single one of y’all.
Now that I’ve had a minute to process it all, I’m ready to write you. The OYOU Creative Women’s Retreat was even more renewing and reconstructive than the previous year’s! Terri Hendrix is as powerful a soul as you’ll ever find, and her kindness knows no bounds. What an incredible gift to be afforded the privilege of consorting with a room full of fiercely imaginative, loving, strong, women. The depth of the spiritual and creative immersion we find at OYOU is simply too great to be measured. You people ROCK, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. I so look forward to next year and I miss you already.

Hey! Thank you for stopping by! Just want to tell you about the ETX ROCKS Show! I’m adding a link so you can go check it out for yourself. These folks are champions for the singer-songwriter in Texas and beyond! I recently got to sit down with them and talk shop and life and whatnot, and it was a blast! They are a great source for checking out what’s new in Texas music or what’s been right there flying under the radar all along.
Friends, it is an honor to be asked to give an opinion of the works of other songwriters. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of the Texas Country Music Association’s 2017 Songwriter Contest in this way. Each of these writers is a gifted individual. Make no mistake: These are my peers. We are cut from the same cloth in many ways. Songwriter friends, please know that ANY judge’s opinion of your work is ONLY an opinion. The infinite number of reasons a listener does or does NOT *like* your song better than another, will never include that one of you is just not a good songwriter. These decisions are all subject to the criteria set forth, not only by the entity holding the contest, but by the individual judge’s particular taste in music above all else. What I love, someone else hates. What I can’t stand, someone else adores. These differences bring us a spectrum of music in which everyone may be included and find a home. Thank you for reading this. Thank you for sharing your gift, and thank you for listening.
Wildflower Festival 2017 was an incredible experience! I am SO grateful to the powers that be for inviting me to play! Everyone just couldn’t have been more kind and welcoming to the new girl. You were all such a supportive audience and I can’t thank you enough for showing up to listen. I hope to see you all again next year!!
